Today's Little Thing...

>> 2/17/11

Walk-in closets that are big enough to lay down in when you have a migraine. Yay for no windows, clothes that absorb all the sound and a kitty who sneaks in and snuggles with me.

Obviously, I'm feeling better a little better now. So while the vice around my head is continuing to loosen, here is some closet eye candy...

Field of Fireflies

>> 2/15/11

Have you ever woken up with a memory or image in your head that instantly took you back in time? I absolutely love when I remember something from my childhood that I hadn't thought about in years. I woke up yesterday morning remembering this...

No...not (just) a spotty photo I found on Google Images...it's a field of fireflies.

I used to sneak out at night and go for long walks. I wouldn't do anything bad...I just wouldn't be able to sleep so I would walk through the woods or up the road until I got tired. (Was I weird or what? Who does that?!)

Our house was nestled back in the woods and we had a long curving gravel driveway so no one could see our house from the road...no street lamps. Just moonlight and when the weather was right the entire field would light up with fireflies. Like thousands of twinkling lights. I swear no camera can capture what I used to sit and watch.

At times like that I felt closest to God. To know that he created something so absolutely beautiful was confirmation that He existed to me. The more I studied biology and the complexity of creation the more I became convinced that it was intelligent design. So thanks be to God for giving me the little things...like the memory of a field full of fireflies.

The Little Things and Zombies

>> 2/4/11

My late class was canceled yesterday due to unexpected ice- yay!! So instead of discussing HR Management, I got to cuddle on the couch with my favorite person and watch Zombieland. Hilarious. :)

Rule #32: Enjoy the little things.

My enjoyment this morning came from the perfect cup of tea. I love when it gets cool enough to drink without scalding your tongue but still hot enough to warm me from the inside out on a cold day. I've been on a tea kick lately...can't really stand the taste of coffee right now but I'm sure I will convert back to it by the time final exams roll around. Here are my absolute favorites:

Blackberry Sage Tea
Earl Greyer Tea

Chamomile Lemon
(You must sweeten with honey
and be prepared to take a nap!)
Trudeau Tulip Mug
(My ABSOLUTE favorite mug ever! Thx Holly!)

Craigslist Find!

>> 11/6/10

I've been bugging Noel for awhile to get a chair for our bedroom, and a few weeks ago I fell in love with an old vintage rocker I found on Craigslist. So I emailed...and was disappointed to find out that someone else had already promised to buy. A week later (thanks to a persistent Craigslist seller!) she emailed me back because "that someone" never showed to pick it up! Yay for me!! I think I did an Elaine from Seinfeld dance when I found out.

Noel was sweet enough to drive me there and help me load it up. So for only $60 we got a great rocking chair that now lives in our bedroom. I rock in it every morning because I love it so. And Jasper loves to rock with me so we have our quiet morning snuggles there. Awww...sweet spoiled rotten kitty.

See...he loves it!

And did you see those maps in the top photo...that post is coming soon!
And just in case you didn't notice my awesome roses...

My sweet husband got them for me "just because".

My sister-in-law once said she would eat poop for a Nissan Altima, and while I wouldn't quite go THAT far- I would totally work a second job to afford this beauty! I've been saving since my birthday last year for a camera. The Nikon D3100 was just released in September and is getting great reviews from the amateurs out there. It not only has 14.2 Megapixels but also has video capabilities to record in Full 1080p. Maybe one more year of saving and I can share some awesome pics with you. I heart it.

So in love...

>> 4/1/10

Having a much better week for those who read my last post. It was comical how bad my week was. Oh well...such is life. Smile and move on right?! Getting ready for the Easter holidays. Won't be able to go home but very much looking forward to spending time with my hubby. I see a trip to the botanical gardens and English Village in our future. :)

Forgive the sober content of this post, but I found this today and couldn't resist sharing...

It makes my eyes tear up. This diary entry was all that was written by Teddy Roosevelt on the day that his first wife Alice died. She was 22 and he was only 25. She died on Feb. 14- the 4 year anniversary of their engagement announcement. His mother died the very same day in the same house. He was so distraught that he never mentioned her in public ever again. Although he did write this at a later date:

"She was beautiful in face and form, and lovelier still in spirit; As a flower she grew, and as a fair young flower she died. Her life had been always in the sunshine; there had never come to her a single sorrow; and none ever knew her who did not love and revere her for the bright, sunny temper and her saintly unselfishness. Fair, pure, and joyous as a maiden; loving , tender, and happy. As a young wife; when she had just become a mother, when her life seemed to be just begun, and when the years seemed so bright before her—then, by a strange and terrible fate, death came to her. And when my heart’s dearest died, the light went from my life forever."

So in love.

An Ice cream WONDERLAND!

>> 2/22/10

On our way home last night my wonderful husband wanted to stop at Yogurt Mountain, a local soft serve frozen yogurt place here in Birmingham. (For the record- I was only going to have fruit for dinner- he made me do it!) This was a first time experience for Noel and I- but definitely not our last!

This place is a magical wonderland of sweets (and a diabetic's nightmare!). As I walked in I noticed that everyone walking out had huge cups of ice cream- and when I say huge I mean overflowing the 16oz cups provided by Yogurt Mountain. I thought, "Gee- I sure hope they have a child's portion- that way too much!" Let me tell you- I had to eat my words. When you go in it is all self serve (pay by the ounce). An entire wall is dedicated to soft serve machines with flavors ranging from your traditional vanilla and chocolate to pomegranate, espresso, peanut butter, banana pudding- you name it and they had it. Then you turn around and another wall is dedicated to the toppings. OH the toppings!! They had every cereal and candy imaginable- even fruit and hot toppings. SO hard not to go overboard. I seriously watched my husband become an excited 10 year old kid again.

We had lots of fun and will definitely be back- after we work off all we ate last night...

Noel's impressive list: Chocolate, peanut butter, and banana pudding yogurt with Twix, Reese's, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, vanilla wafers, hot caramel sauce, and a bunch of other stuff (I lost count- as I mentioned- he quickly morphed into the excited 10 year old- precious!)

Devon's list: Chocolate, peanut butter and espresso yogurt with Coco Crispies, peanut butter chips and Twix crumbles. YUM.

One day...I will hit you with a tomato!

>> 9/1/09

La Tomatina is the annual festival in Spain during which over one hundred tons of tomatoes are thrown at the nearest victim. It takes place every August and is the absolute largest food fight ever. How fab-frickin-tabulous! I have to do this before I die!
